May 13 - Kent Garrett - Digital Portraits:

The crafting of 21st Century Portraiture

Kent Garrett will discuss modern techniques used in fashioning facial contours into contemporary negative and positive compositions. The workshop will explore photographic conversions, recent examples, and a discussion of traditional media and itís correlation with digital media. Examples are shown below. Sounds like fun. Join us Sunday, May 20, at the usual time and place, 1:30 for refreshments and conversation, at the Waco Charter School, 615 N 25th Street. The meeting begins at 2, and the presentation shortly thereafter. Bring your art for Show and Tell, and bring friends. The first visit is free.

                        
Kent is the Director of Fine Arts At Reicher Catholic High School. He has been an instructor of Art and Advanced Placement Art at Reicher Catholic High School, Waco, Texas since 2000. This school year marks his 40th year as an art teacher in both the public and private sector, with the last twenty-two years teaching Advanced Placement Art. This has included classes in Drawing, 2D-Design and Art History. He currently serves as the coordinator of On-Site Drawing at the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools State Art Competition. Kent has been an exhibiting artist since his teaching career began. His most recent exhibit included two pieces accepted for the juried competition recently concluded at The Art Center, Waco,Texas. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, majoring in Art at Texas State University, 1970. In 1990 he received training at the University of New Mexico in Advanced Placement Art. Kent studied under Bob Wade at McLennan Community College and counts Harriet Hayward as a major influence, He has graphic arts specialization with a teaching background in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign Computer Software Programs. Graphic Arts Clients include: Education Service Center-Region 12, Educators Credit Union, Art Center Waco, Waco Independent School District, Reicher Catholic High School and St. Louis Elementary School.
