April 12 - Short Presentations from Members
For April, we
have scheduled several short presentations by members. Tim Lowe will
talk about shading, Mary Behrens will present helpful hints about
portrait painting, Judy Franklin will show examples of mats selected to
enhance watercolors, and Bill Franklin will demonstrate how to cut
beveled mats to fit the frame and the painting. We may have time for
another presentation. If you would like to volunteer one, please call
Mary Behrens at 254-776-6384, or email her at
marbobeh@grandecom.net.
We will meet in the garden room at the Central
Presbyterian Church,
9191 Woodway Drive, at 1:30 for
conversation and refreshments. The meeting will begin at 2, and the
presentations soon thereafter. Bring friends (first visit is free) and
bring some of your art for Show and Tell.
April 12 - Short Presentations by Members
Four of our
members made short presentations following Show and Tell. Tim Lowe did a
demo/participation on drawing. He brought an illustration of a waterfall
and pencils
and paper for those who wanted to try reproducing it. The photo at the
top right shows Tim during the instruction. Mary Brehens showed how an
original can be enlarged to fit the canvas, using a grid system which
she provided. She also showed some of her art for which this system was
used. She and some of the participants are shown at the top left. Judy
Franklin showed
how different mats enhanced watercolors. She showed several of her
paintings, and explained why she made the mat color
choices
that she did. She also showed how a tilted horizon can be straightened
during matting. She then held a nearly completed painting against mats
of various colors (shown at the lower right). The group decided which
color they thought best enhanced the painting. Then Bill Franklin cut
that color mat, showing how a mat cutter can do the job very quickly and
easily. Bill is holding the completed mat at the lower left. Thumbnail
photos are all the same width, making horizontals look smaller, but you
can enlarge them by clicking on them.
Thanks to
all of the presenters. The response to them was very positive. In fact,
there was a general agreement that this sort of program should be
repeated in the future by other members. Thanks also to those who
brought refreshments and to those who brought art for Show and Tell,
some of which is shown below.
