April 11 - Jeanne Lubey - Painting Still Life in Oil

Jeanne Lubey teaches oil painting and plays the dulcimer in the Georgetown area. For us, she'll be demonstrating painting, not music. In a life time of adventures, Jeanne has raised a family of four children with her husband Darrel, and lived in 8 different states. During those years she earned a Master's degree in Art Education from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. Jeanne has been an oil painter and art educator for 20 years.

She tells us "When deciding what to paint, I try to connect with my subject on some level and then plan the composition using thumbnail sketches. After drawing the image on my canvas, I choose a limited palette of primary and secondary colors, repeating the use of these colors throughout the composition to create a sense of visual unity."  Additional examples of her work can be found on her web site,

We will be meeting at the Central library, 1717 Austin Ave. Come at 1:30 for refreshments and conversation - and to vote on two groups of artworks. One is the first floor exhibit of elementary school student art vying for the Letzler Awards. The other is our art from which we will select the postcard art for our May 12 Arboretum exhibit. To be considered, you need to bring your artwork (only one per member) at 1:30.  At 2, we'll collect the ballots and begin the meeting, with Jeanne's demo starting soon thereafter. At the break, the winners will be announced, and our members will have a chance to show and tell.
