Featuring Chesley Smith

Born in Waco, Chesley Smith has been involved in art education for 40 years as a teacher in Waco schools and as head of the art department at Paul Quinn College in Dallas. He holds both bachelors and masters degrees in art education, and he has exhibited widely across Texas and elsewhere. Since 1986 he has had 13 solo exhibits in numerous venues around Texas, has contributed to dozens of other exhibits, and has produced a number of commissioned works.

Shown here are works from a series of wood reliefs, paper collages, paintings, images made by arranging vinyl record shards, and one pen and ink work. Most are inspired by jazz music. By painting while listening to jazz, he taps into the emotions, memories and feelings evoked by it.

If you are interested in obtaining Chesley's art, you may contact him at csmith108@hot.rr.com or 254-644-0300.
