Frank Letzler Scholarship Awards
This program is not
currently active
The Art Guild of Central Texas is sponsoring art awards to Waco area
elementary school students, grades K-5. Letters have been sent to schools
within about 30 miles of Waco. If we missed any, or if other schools a bit
farther away would like to participate, they may do so by contacting Bill
Franklin at physicsnerd@yahoo.com
or 254-741-0960. The letter sent is reproduced below. The letter, a
certificate, and an artist's release can be sent as email attachments
(Microsoft Word). Mailing is also an option, if you can't handle
attachments, but it's slower and more expensive for us.
The Art Guild of Central Texas will
award prizes to elementary students in the greater Waco area in honor of
recently deceased longtime member Frank Letzler. We encourage you to hold a
student art exhibit in your school, perhaps limited to one entry per
student. We suggest awarding at least 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at each grade
level, then picking a Best of Show among all of the 1st places from grades
K-5. If you have a 6th grade, you may include it in your school's exhibit,
but your choice for our exhibit is limited to grades K-5. Other means of
selection are acceptable, as long as you pick a single entry to represent
your school. A blank certificate form is enclosed. Please duplicate it,
preferably on certificate paper. You may award Honorable Mention
certificates to any or all of those not receiving the top awards.
You may limit entries by medium, size,
etc., but we will accept any medium, any subject, and any size that you
can deliver through a standard door.
Your school's entry information must be mailed to us by March 19, 2010,
on the form below.
Your school's entry must be delivered to the Waco-McLennan County
Central Library, 1717 Austin Avenue, on Saturday, April 3, between 10
a.m. and 2 p.m. and picked up on Saturday, May 1, between 1 and 4 p.m.
We ask that your entry be ready to exhibit, i.e., that any
two-dimensional art be matted and/or framed and provided with a wire or
other means of hanging it on a wall.
Awardees will be selected by a vote of the members of the Art Guild of
Central Texas. First place will receive $100, 2nd place $50, and 3rd
place $25. All three will receive a student membership in the Art Guild
of Central Texas valid through May, 2011. The awards will be delivered
to the recipients when the art is picked up on May 1.
We would be happy to answer questions, and we hope to have an entry from
your school. If you are unable to send an entry this year, but would like an
invitation next year, please indicate that on the form below and return it
to us.
Thank you.
